Seeds

in process

The Seeds pieces used a technique called Reticulation. This is the heating of a sheet of silver until the top layer begins to melt. Moving the torch away at this stage allows the metal to cool. Toggling the heating and cooling creates shrinkage in the top layer of metal that makes a texture.

The reticulated metal is then cut into discs using a disc cutter.

The balls (seeds) are formed using a technique called charcoal casting

The tentacles of the piece were made with two different gauges of wire (18 & 14) fused together at one end.

soldering the seed pods to the collar.
